Thinking activity.

This morning our class was given a logical and creative thinking challenge with 5 objects and a problem. Our task was to find a solution to solve this problem using only the 5 objects we were given. For example my problem was you were stuck outside on an snowy day. How would you protect yourself ?. The 5 objects were a bike, banana, tape measure, paint brush and a sunflower. My group Beni and I had failed this challenge but it really got us thinking hard which tells me next time we have to even harder. After failing we still enjoyed it because of all the thinking it involves.

Badminton.

Last week on Thursday morning room 22 had a Badminton session with the Auckland Badminton coach Lawreen in the school hall.

Lawreen our instructor taught us the proper way of hitting a shuttle cock with a racket.There were a few techniques for remembering like thumbs up then thumbs down.After learning this technique we were given a challenge to try and get as many shuttles into a bin that was five steps away from you.

We were given a few challenges but my favorite was hitting it back and forth with my partner.The challenge was to hit the shuttles 100 or more times non stop.My partner Henry and I only managed to hit the shuttle 30 times so we had failed.So we tried and tried but we did not improve and only hitting ten.

After that session I thought it was great because we learnt a new sport and new techniques.Badminton seamed like a cool and fun sport so I could not wait for our next session.

Sessions with Sio Siua Taukeiaho.

My class room 22 had a Rugby League session with one of the 2011 Vodafone Junior Warriors squad,”Sio Siua Taukeiaho”.I did not participate in this because I was sick but I still picked up on some of the skills that they were told to do.

They were all split up into four even groups and every challenge each group wins they would earn a point.There first drill was zigg zagging through the cones to the other end then sprint back.This drill helps you with your balance while side stepping.Each group was gaining more and more points by the minute so this was going to be a tough challenge for them.

The second drill was side stepping through your team all the way to the other side of the court then sprint back and be the first one score a try to earn a point.This drill was teaching that its better to avoid your opponent than running straight into them.By the end of this drill the points were all tied up at four all.

They were at there last drill where you had to kick the ball past the line at the ground near your opponent to get them out.There were balls been kicked into the air because thats where most people most nervous to catch.After the drill it was time to saya big thanks and good bye to the famous Junior Warrior.

Science Roadshow.

Last Thursday the year 7/8 had gone down to Tamaki College for the science roadshow because it relates to our topic bigger,better,faster,stronger.The cost of the roadshow was 7 dollars for the show and to see the exhibits.

As we arrived at the auditorium the other classes session was just finishing.Oznce we were instructed on the rules we were off to check out all the exhibits.There was a variety of inventions so I picked the topic sound.Where I saw the amazing there-min which creates sound with two metal plates by placing one hand on one plate and the other hand raised above the other plate.

We were given a task and that was to explain 4 listed exhibits to the special teacher then you place your card into the container to be in the draw to win a prize.We were called back to our seats so they could announce the winner.But I was not so lucky and the prize was only 3D picture with glasses.Our session was almost finished because we were going through the last show of the day.This was a good experience for us students and teachers and we would all wish for more.

Fabulous swimming.

For the last few weeks the year 7 and 8 classes have been going out for swimming lessons.We go down to GI pools everyday from Monday to Thursday during lunch.Why we are doing this is because swimming is a fun sport and it really helps when it comes to surviving out at sea.

In swimming we have been learning different techniques on how to freestyle.What we need to practice is to keep our legs straight while kicking and the movement of our arms so we can swim the full length of the pool.Other techniques we learnt were dragging our fingers along the water doing freestyle.

These last few weeks I have enjoyed going down to the GI pools with my class and I wish we had more sessions.

Creating felt.

Geometry.

This term room 22 is studying geometry.Our main topic based on this is shapes and 3D figures.These have helped us create our artwork which was created by circles that we have displayed on our class wall.

Geometry is the study of size,shape and position of 2D shapes and 3D figures.In class we are using all these topics to help us understand what geometry is all about.So we have created nets,tangrams and making objects with 2D shapes.

Our class enjoys doing geometry now because you get to work with shapes and figures and use them in all different ways.

Taonga time.

Taonga time is what we have here at our school every Friday.Taonga means treasure in Maori language and this time gives us students an opportunity to learn more about what teachers are most Passionate about.

We have subjects and they are sports,music,art,team building,technology and science.I am with the most hansom Mr Harris who takes the subject science .Our first experiment was making liquid dry and it was fun to play with ounce we completed it.

I'm glad we have Taonga time because we can do things that we really enjoy and we are always in the mood to complete our task.Thats why we are always keen when it comes to Friday.

Senior Net ball sessions.

All senior classes have been going out for Netball sessions every week to help us with our skills. My class room 22 have our sessions on Thursdays in the afternoon with our instructor Emma from the Auckland Netball Association.

First we started off with dynamic stretches which were high knee’s, but kicks, and grape vine to warm up our body. Our second drill was learning all three ways of passing the ball like chest pass, ground pass and high pass. The last drill was to do with our stepping by calling ice cream while taking two steps before receiving the ball.

To end our session we finished it with a game of corner ball. The aim of the game was to get the ball to your team mate who was in the opposite corner surrounded by cones.the overall score 4/0 to my team.

Our session was done and we all enjoyed the drills and could not wait to come back next Thursday.

One of my subjects I was pleased with last term was my homework results.In my report I received excellence for work habit, behavior and academic progress.My family was also pleased with my results.

The subject I would like to most improve on is my behavior when it comes to writing.Every time it comes to writing I would always pull out a frown. I think if I accomplish this I will be a much better writer.

last term overall I thought I had a great start to the year.My highlights from last term was Receiving awards in assembly and have improved on a few subjects.What a great start to the year for me.

My absolute highlight of Camp TC was Rock up who are a group of people that have allot of equipment and awesome activities.My top three activities were the Dunker,Rock climbing, and Alligator alley which is a game that you use curtain equipment to start from one side and get to the other.

The thing I would change about camp to make it better would be for us to be able to sleep in till nine.Then begin our morning fitness.

This year in maths we have been studying statistics.Statistics is a way of finding out things so we had an investigation on students favorite food and subjects.We have used different graphs to show information in statistics a Column graph,Line graph and a Bar graph.This Column graph shows room twenty two's favorite foods.

It was so unusual waking up early on a Monday morning but all holidays have to come to an an end. Walking to school was a real challenge for me because my heart was pounding and I was huffing and puffing like a dog.

As I arrived I had noticed a lot of new faces and our classrooms still under construction. But we had the permission to enter our classrooms and the new building. We were all crazy as we entered and all so desperate to find out who are our new teachers. I was put with was Ms Tito and this was definitely going to be a new experience for me.

I really enjoyed being in Ms T’s class because she made every subject fun. With hardly any friends in my class I find it a bit boring. But at the end of the day I thought that was a great start to the year.

Kia Ora my name is Charm and I'm in room 22.My favorite subjects are sports and more sports but if you would suggest sleeping and eating as a subject then that too.I love to play League,Softball and Tag during the week and the weekends its like I was born to play sports.My new class room was a bit different with out my friends Tamati,Feki,Zane,Sione and others but there are to much to name.In my life I just like to get physical.

Athletics day

Finally the day I have been waiting for all term had arrived its our 2010 annual school athletics day. We have house colours which are Tainui,Matatua,Te arawa, and the best of all Takitimu.Our day had began with everyone gathering on the hard court sitting in the sering sun.

Our day had kicked off with the 12 year old year 7’s at shot put. I had done an astonishing throw which put me on top. That's when I could feel the sense of achievement. Then our next activity was something we weren't expecting javelin It was definitely a new experience for us but we managed.

We have one more activity before the main event. So we went on to Softball throw focused and ready to go I recon my throw was over 60 metres and I happen to come first again which is great for me but not for others.It was our break time getting ready for the main event.

I was rushing of adrenalin because my heart was pounding so fast it made me so nervous. The 12 year old boys that's me were starting there race. This time I had to push my self to the limit if I wanted to win. The crowd went silent and BANG!!! off we went as I take the lead tamati zooms up beside.It was a tough match but I got number one.

At the end of the race I was gasping for air but knowing that was the last it didn't matter. Athletics was coming to an end and I know I gave every event my all and there still things I can work on but thats why theres next year.

YAY!!! the kind of technology us room 20 and 19 have been waiting 10 months for.The air was filled with excitement because everyone was thrilled to try out our new tech netbooks.Now we are able to chat,blog, and post more often online.Its also a good way for us to improve on checking other school sites and leaving a comment on there blog.

''OHH NOO!!!!'' it was our first writing sample, my heart pounding and my body sweating I was feeling extremely nervous. Writing is like my worst nightmare, with all the complicated and difficult words as well as spelling errors. We all had 40 minutes to complete the writing. I perched my hand onto the perfectly sharpened pencil glaring at all the sheets of paper. Off I went clearly focused on my writing and trying to get my work finished. 30 minutes had gone and I was only half way through my first page with everyone two pages ahead of me. I had ten minutes to go adding more detail and checking the quality of my work.
The 40 minutes was up and I thought I tried my hardest and I had alot of potential.
